Why do I need a PIN?
To help tackle fraud, an increasing number of retailers will ask you to enter your PIN, rather than signing for purchases.
What if I don't know my PIN?
If you don't know or have forgotten your PIN, call us on 08701 542 543*. We'll send you a new one within four working days.
Can I use Chip and PIN abroad?
Chip and PIN is being introduced in several countries where you’ll now need to use your PIN if you want to make purchases. In countries where Chip and PIN has yet to be introduced, you will be asked to sign a receipt to confirm the purchase. For extra security when you go abroad, call us on 08701 542 543* to advise us that you’re out of the country so that we can monitor your card for foreign transactions.
What if I have a disability that prevents me from using a PIN?
If you have a disability that makes it difficult for you to use or remember a PIN, you can request a Chip signature card. Please call us on 08701 542 543*.
We strongly advise that you never write down or tell anyone your credit card PIN. Also, you should never give your card or card number to anyone unless giving payment details. If you think anyone is using your card without your permission, call us immediately on 0845 300 0344*.

If we suspect that someone is using your card or card details without your knowledge, we'll call you as soon as possible to check. Please note that this call may be automated.

What happens if my card is lost or stolen when I'm on holiday?

We'll do our best to send you an emergency replacement card, and an emergency cash advance of up to US $1000 or the local currency equivalent within 48 hours if you request us to do so.

How it works
Enrol for Sainsbury's Bank Secure online and choose your own unique personal password. Every time you use your card for online purchases with participating companies, you'll be asked to confirm the purchase by entering your password on a secure and completely confidential pop up screen.
