When do my points get added to my Nectar account?

Your base points from Sainsbury's will be added to your Nectar account as before.

The matching points earned as a result of your insurance policy, Loan or savings account will be calculated on the last business day of each month and we will add them to your Nectar account by the 10th of the following month. Points earned on your Credit Card will be added to your Nectar account shortly after your Credit Card statement date.

How do I earn a week's free shopping?

If you take out one of the financial products in our double Nectar points promotion and do your weekly shopping in Sainsbury's, then the combined Nectar points you earn could pay for one week's free shopping each year.  For example, if you spend £49 a week in Sainsbury's and swipe your Nectar card, you'll earn 98 points. If you have one of the financial products in our promotion, we'll match this by adding another 98 points to the monthly bonus we give you.  This means your shop has earned you a total of 196 points. Over 52 weeks, you'll earn a total of 10,192 Nectar points this way. When you have collected 10,000 points, you can redeem them for £50 worth of groceries – that's your weekly shop for free, plus a bar of chocolate for you!

What happens if I don’t have my Nectar card when I'm taking out an account/policy?

I'm sorry but in most cases you can't take part in the offer. You must have your Nectar card number ready when you call to take out any of the products. The only exception is Credit Card where you can add your Nectar Card number later by calling Credit Card Customer Services on the number shown on the Contact Us tab above. You will not, however, earn points on your Credit Card spend until you have nominated a Nectar Card.

Why didn't I earn double points on all my Christmas shopping at Sainsbury's?

It may be one of a few reasons:

  • We only match Sainsbury's base points, not bonus points
  • You may have reached your monthly maximum of 2,500 Nectar points per product. (There is no monthly maximum on Credit Cards)
  • We do not match points earned with Sainsbury's Energy, Telecoms, Digital, Bank, Diets and all other Sainsbury's services.

How do I know what points I’ve earned?

You can check your points on nectar.com or your Nectar statement. You can also see how many points you've earned on your Credit Card on your monthly credit card statement. Remember, we calculate your points on the last business day of the month for Insurances, Loans and savings accounts and add them to your Nectar account by the 10th of the following month. Points from your credit card will be added shortly after your statement date.

I haven’t got all the points I expected.  What do I do?

Check that you haven't exceeded the monthly maximum of 2,500 bonus points per product (remembering that there is no maximum on your Credit Card).  Then check how you've earned your points – we don’t match points earned with Sainsbury's Energy, Telecoms, Digital, Bank, Diets and all other Sainsbury's services, and we don’t match bonus points. With our Credit Card, however, you also earn 1 point for every £5 you spend on your card outside Sainsbury's. Then, if everything else is fine, call the area you got your last product from on the number shown on the Contact Us tab above.

Can I collect double points on my petrol?

Yes, but remember that points are earned on petrol at 1 point per litre and we'll match this rate, except on Credit Cards, where we'll give you 2 points per £1 spent.

If I've reached the monthly cap on bonus points, will I still get my regular points for my shopping?

Yes. Sainsbury's Finance will stop matching your points when you reach the monthly maximum, but you'll continue to earn points at the till as usual. Please note, however, that there is no monthly maximum for spend on your credit card.

I was earning points but seem to have stopped.  Why?

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Have you changed your Nectar card number?
  • Has the balance in your savings account dropped below £5,000?
  • Have you missed payments on your Credit Card, loan or insurance policy?
  • Have you reduced your insurance cover? (e.g. changed from Option 2 to Option 1 cover on your Pet Insurance policy; changed from Sainsbury's Premier Cover Home Insurance to Sainsbury's Home Insurance; or stopped either your Buildings or Contents cover).
  • Have you repaid your loan?
  •

If the answer to any of these questions is 'yes', we will have stopped your points. Please call us on the number shown on the Contact Us tab above if you need more help.

Is there anything in Sainsbury's which is excluded from the double points offer?

We only match the base points you earn on your Sainsbury's purchases, so anything you would not normally earn points on will be excluded from this offer – see sainsburys.co.uk/nectar for more details. In addition, we will not match bonus point offers, nor points earned with Sainsbury's Energy, Telecoms, Digital, Bank, Diets and all other Sainsbury's services.

Can I earn triple points if I take two of the products that are in your offer?

Yes – provided they are different products (e.g. a Home Insurance policy and a Pet Insurance policy, or a Credit Card and a Life Insurance policy). So if, for example, you earn 100 points in Sainsbury's in a month and have a qualifying Car Insurance policy and a qualifying Loan, we'll award you 100 bonus points because of the Car Insurance policy and a further 100 points for the Loan – a total of 300 points!
