What are high risk items?

The following items that fall into this category are: Televisions, personal computers, audio (including digital players) and video equipment, DVD equipment, photographic equipment, jewellery and items made from precious metals, watches, furs, works of art, sets or collectables/collections including but not limited to stamp, medal and coin collections, telescopes, microscopes and camcorders.

What should I do if I have any high risk items or personal belongings over £1,500, or pedal cycles above £500?

With Sainsbury's Home Insurance you can arrange specific cover for high-risk items or personal belongings worth over £1,500 and for pedal cycles worth over £500. You can add these items to your policy during the online quote & buy process, or by arranging cover over the phone, by calling 0500 301 030.

Are Bicycles covered as standard under Contents Insurance?

Yes, Pedal Cycles are covered as standard up to £500 per cycle, in the home. They can also be covered for £500 per cycle outside of the home under the optional Personal Belongings Section of the policy. If your bike is worth more than £500 you can arrange specific cover for it - see the "what should I do if I have any high risk items or personal belongings over £1,500, or pedal cycles above £500?" question above.

Can I protect my no claims discount (NCD)?

Optional NCD protection is available upon the payment of an additional premium if you hold 5 or more years NCD. You can even transfer your existing claim free years from your current insurer. Protecting your NCD allows you to make one claim in any one insurance year without losing any of your no claims discount.

Why is there no rebuilding cost on the policy?

Unlimited Buildings cover is standard on our policy. We cover you automatically for the full cost of rebuilding all the buildings in the same form, size, style and condition as when new including the cost of complying with local authority and other statutory requirements, fees and related costs.*

Are contents covered away from the home?

Under the standard cover provided, Contents are covered away from the home within the British Isles for up to 90 days in any one insurance year. Items taken away from the home are covered in certain places in the UK only e.g. In banks, building societies or any building in which your family lives or works in. See policy for full details.

Personal Belongings provides more extensive cover for items that are taken away from the home and even covers items that are taken overseas. Items taken overseas are covered for up to 60 days in any one insurance year.

Can I cover student belongings?

Yes, Sainsbury's Home insurance offers optional cover for Student Belongings while a member of your family is in university halls of residence or rented student accommodation. A student's personal belongings can also be covered while they're out and about by selecting optional Personal Belongings cover.

What discounts are available?

Sainsbury's Home insurance offers generous discounts for: combining both buildings and contents cover in one policy and offers no claims discounts. Your premium may also be reduced in recognition of security measures such as burglar alarms, door and window locks and neighbourhood watch schemes.

Do I need accidental damage cover?

Sainsbury's Home insurance provides cover as standard for accidental damage to drains, pipes, cables and tanks, TVs, videos, audio equipment, computer equipment, and satellite receiving equipment. We also cover accidental breakage of glass, mirrors and sanitary ware.

Full accidental damage cover is also available for both buildings and contents. This is particularly useful if you are a DIY enthusiast, as it covers incidents such as drilling through pipes, or damage that can be caused by pets or young children.

Are repairs guaranteed?

Yes, any claims repair work carried out by our approved contractors is guaranteed for 12 months.

Do I have to pay extra to pay monthly?

No, unlike many providers, Sainsbury's Bank don't charge you extra to spread your payments over the year by paying by Direct Debit.

Does Sainsbury's Home insurance cover landlords?
