Make sure you choose where your voucher goes

Open your Child Trust Fund today. If you don't invest your child's voucher before it's expiry date, the government will automatically set up a Child Trust Fund for you. This means that you'll have lost your right to choose a provider when the account is first opened, although you will be able to transfer the account to another provider at any time. So if you've had your voucher for a while, make sure you get in touch as soon as possible.
