From April 2016, it is a legal requirement for all UK dogs over eight weeks to be microchipped, but cats, parrots, rabbits and many other small furries can have the procedure too. A lost or stolen pet is more likely to be reunited with its owner if microchipped - so given that one in three pets go missing in their lifetime, it's a worthwhile precaution for any pet.
