Control your energy costs
Shop around for your gas and electricity. With average annual UK gas bills reaching £469 a year, it could be well worth your while. Even if you've changed suppliers recently, it's still good too keep looking. Customers who have never switched suppliers are collectively losing out on savings of over £1 billion.
What's more, the majority of gas and electricity companies have recently announced increases in bills - some by up to 22%.
Try Sainsbury's energy savings calculator to see how much you could save by switching.
You can also save on energy costs by being more energy conscious. Turn down the thermostat on the heating and hot water a couple of degrees. Fit low energy light bulbs. Don't leave appliances on standby - or your phone charger on when you're not using it. Insulate your hot water tank and roof and make your windows draught proof if you haven't already done so.
