Idea 3

Protect yourself against the unexpected

You're on holiday. You have an accident. You need to get home fast. It could happen - which is why you should take out travel insurance. Otherwise you could be looking at paying as much as £35,000 for an air ambulance.

When taking out insurance, be sure to read the small print, as not all insurance policies are the same, and exclusions vary. If you are planning to take part in sports activities while on holiday, check which ones your policy covers.

You might want to check out the limits for the different elements of the cover - consider where you're going - you might want to make sure you have a generous allowance for medical expenses in the United States where costs are generally high. And remember if you have any medical conditions, be sure to tell the insurer about these before you travel and confirm whether these will have any affect your cover. If in doubt, ask your insurer.
