Sainsbury's Bank lending products general points

For loans, credit cards and all other forms of credit:

  • You must be aged at least 18 years or over and resident in the UK (excluding Channel Islands and Isle of Man) to apply for credit.
  • All lending is subject to the Bank's appraisal of your financial status and the Bank may seek to verify information provided in the application form.

Sainsbury's Bank Savings Accounts

Some useful definitions

Annual Equivalent Rate
AER stands for Annual Equivalent Rate and illustrates what the interest would be if interest was paid and compounded once each year. As every advert for a savings product will contain an AER, you will be able to compare more easily what return you can expect from your savings over time.

Gross Rate
The gross rate is the contractual rate of interest payable before the deduction of income tax at the rate specified by law.

Financial Services Compensation Scheme

Sainsbury's Bank is a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.  Where a customer has made deposits in a savings or bank account, payments under the scheme are limited to 100% of the first £35,000, subject to a maximum payment to any one depositor of £35,000.  This limit applies provided the insolvency or other default of the bank or firm concerned takes place after 1st October 2007.  Most deposits denominated in sterling and other European Economic Area currencies and Euro made with offices of the bank within the European Economic Area are covered.  There are different levels of protection for other investments covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.  Further details of the scheme are available on request.

As with any insurance policy, there may be certain situations which are not covered. Information about you and your insurance cover will be held by Sainsbury's Bank and the insurers in their computer records for the purpose of your insurance. This includes underwriting, processing, claims handling and fraud prevention which could include passing details to agents of the insurers or other insurers.

car insurance

Car insurance is arranged and administered by esure Services Limited. Registered in England No. 2135610 at The Observatory, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 0SG. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority. Not available in Northern Ireland or the Channel Islands or for drivers over 80. Subject to normal acceptance criteria. Like all insurers, there may be circumstances where we are unable to provide a quote.

United Kingdom law allows parties to choose the law applicable to a contract. The contract will be subject to the law applicable to the region of the United Kingdom in which you reside.
