Registering for Online Banking
You can use Sainsbury's Online Banking to service your Sainsbury's Savings account and Sainsbury's Credit Card. To use Sainsbury’s Online Banking service, you only need to register once with one of your accounts. To register, please enter:
- Your Savings account sort code and account number or your Credit card number - you'll find these on the welcome letter we sent you after you opened your account.
- Some personal details, including your address.
- An online username of your choice - choose something memorable or write it down as you'll need it when you activate your account and every time you log in.
What happens next?
You’ll receive a letter from us with your access code. Use your username and access code to activate your online account.

You can find out more about registering for Sainsbury's Online Banking to access, view and manage your account online in our online support section.
- Go to sainsburysbank.co.uk/activate
- Enter your username (you chose this during the application process and it was verified in the confirmation email we sent you).
- Enter your access code (you'll find this on your welcome letter).
- You'll then be asked to set a password and to provide answers to security questions.
- Lastly, click on 'next' to complete the process and activate the online service.
Once you’ve activated the service, you’ll need to enter your username and password every time you log in.

To keep track of your Sainsbury's Savings or your Sainsbury’s Credit Card transactions, here’s how to get the complete picture when viewing your accounts online.
First, log in to Sainsbury’s Online Banking.
Account summary
This page shows all the accounts that you’ve chosen to work with online, and provides an at-a-glance view of your balances.
If you have another Sainsbury's Savings account or a Sainsbury’s Credit Card that you would like to work with online, click ‘Add an Account’. Alternatively, click ‘Remove an Account’ from your online view.
You’ll see each of your accounts, along with an 'options' dropdown menu – you can use this to access all your account management tools, allowing you to make payments, transfer money, view your statements, and so on.
Viewing your Sainsbury’s savings accounts online
Savings transactions
This page shows all the transactions made on your savings account in the past 90 days.
You can choose which transactions you want displayed using the ‘Filter by’ dropdown menu.
Viewing your Sainsbury’s Credit Card online
Credit card summary
This page provides an overview of your Sainsbury’s Credit Card account.
Your Sainsbury’s Credit Card statement
Here you can see your last card statement. Use the ‘previous page’ and ‘next page’ buttons at the bottom of the page to browse through all the transactions in this statement. You can use the ‘previous statement’ button to look at statements for previous months.
Recent transactions
Use this page to review all the transactions made on your Sainsbury’s Credit Card since your last statement.
Opened an account but can’t view it?
In some cases, we will need to see some identification before we can let you use your new Internet Saver account. All financial institutions are required by law to identify customers when new accounts are opened.
Previous Page and Next Page buttons
With these buttons you can view earlier or recent transactions (if applicable) in your statement.
Previous Statement and Next Statement buttons
These buttons let you view any previous statements up to your most recent statement.

Using Sainsbury’s Online Banking for joint accounts
You can both use Sainsbury’s Online Banking, as long as you have both registered separately for Sainsbury’s Online Banking and each have your own username.
Access codes
You will receive a letter with your unique access code within seven days of registering for the online service. You will need this code together with your chosen username to activate your account. Your account must be activated before you can log in to Sainsbury’s Online Banking.
Not received your access code?
If you haven’t received your access code within seven days of registering for Sainsbury’s Online Banking, please contact the online helpdesk on 0500 40 50 60*. Lines are open 8am to 10pm Mon - Fri and 8am - 8pm Saturday & Sunday.
Locked out of Sainsbury’s Online Banking?
Simply follow the link from the log in page for ‘Forgotten your log in details’, or ‘Is your access suspended?’. You’ll then be given instructions on how to access to your account.

All you need to do is follow the link from the log in page for ‘Forgotten your log in details’, or ‘Is your access suspended?’. You’ll then be given instructions on how to find out your username/password or security details.
Sort code not appearing in the dropdown box?
If your sort code does not appear on the dropdown box, please check it is a valid Sainsbury’s sort code.
If you’re calling about your partner’s account
To comply with customer confidentiality requirements, we can only discuss accounts or online registration with the account holder unless they have given you authority by registering a valid Power of Attorney Document with Sainsbury’s Finance.
Accessing Sainsbury’s Online Banking from outside the UK
Sainsbury’s Online Banking is only available if you live in the UK. If you are outside the UK you can use our online service to view information but not to open accounts or make transactions. If you want to use the service to view information from outside the UK, you must check legal regulations to make sure it’s legal to do so.
Making payments
Making payments
This feature lets you make a direct payment from your Savings account to one of two possible accounts:
- Your Sainsbury's Credit Card (if you have one)
- One other nominated account (this can be a third party bank account)
Inter account transfer
Use this tool to move money from one of your Sainsbury’s Savings account to another.
Account transfers
Inter account transfers are normally treated as arriving in your account straightaway, except when they are made after 8pm or on a non bank working day. They will be treated as arriving in your account the next bank working day.
Trying to transfer funds but your account is unavailable?
- Just select ‘Add an account’ from your accounts summary screen.
- You will then be taken to the ‘Add products to accounts summary’ screen where you can add your accounts online.
- These will be displayed the next time you view your accounts summary.
Can’t select your Sainsbury’s Credit Card account?
You can make a payment to your Sainsbury’s Credit Card in two ways:
- Select your savings account and make a payment to your Sainsbury’s Credit Card using the ‘Make a payment’ option.
- Select your Sainsbury’s Credit Card and make a payment to your Sainsbury’s Credit Card using a Switch or a Delta Debit card through the ‘Make a payment’ option.

Moved house or changed your email address? Make changes to your account without needing to pick up the phone.
Changing your username
- Log in and select ‘Username’ from the make changes menu on the right-hand side of your screen.
- You will then be asked to enter your current username and then a new one.
- Once this has been changed, you can start to use your new username straight away.
Changing your password
- Log in and select ‘Password’ from the make changes menu on the right-hand side of your screen.
- You will then be asked to enter your current password and then a new one.
- Once this has been changed, you can start to use your new password straight away.
Changing your email address
- Log in and select ‘Email address’ from the ‘Make changes’ menu on the right-hand side of your screen.
- You will then be asked to enter your current email address and then a new one.
- Once this has been changed, you can start to use your new email address straight away.
It’s important you let us know as soon as possible that your email address has changed. If you ever forget your password we can get you back online more quickly if we know your current email address.
Changing your address
- Enter your house number or name and your new post code, and using the Royal Mail Postal Address File, we’ll automatically fill in the rest of your address for you.
- If your details are not recognised or are incorrect, you can manually enter your full address.
- Any changes you make to your address online will be carried out within seven working days and will apply to any Sainsbury’s Savings account or your Sainsbury’s Credit Card.

Transferring balances online
- Select ‘Request a balance transfer’ from the menu on your Accounts page.
- Simply enter the details of up to three credit card(s) and/or selected store cards and the amount you would like to transfer.
- You’ll need to answer two security questions before you can submit your request.
- Within the following few days, you’ll receive a written confirmation of your balance transfer (there is a 3% fee for Balance Transfers).
- Your funds should reach the beneficiary bank account within 10 working days.
Requesting a new credit limit
- From the menu on your Accounts page, select 'Request an increase to your credit limit'.
- Enter the amount you would like your new credit limit to be.
- After answering two security questions, you can then submit your request. (Please remember that only the principal cardholder can submit online requests).
- We will then contact you by letter within the next seven days about your credit limit request.
Should you wish to decrease your credit limit we can only do this over the telephone, therefore please contact customer services on 08701 542 543.
Adding cardholders
You can add up to three additional cardholders, but they must be at least 18 years of age. They will be able to share your credit limit, but you will be responsible for all their transactions.
- To add a cardholder, select 'Add an additional cardholder' from the menu on your Accounts page and enter their details.
- Once you’ve answered two security questions, you can submit your request.
- Within 10 working days, you should receive a new card in the name of the additional cardholder at your home address.
Changing your statement date
- Choose 'Change statement date' from the menu on your accounts page.
- Select when you would prefer to receive your statement during the month - week one to week four. We cannot produce statements on specific dates each month but we will try to produce your statement as close as possible to your selection. You’ll then need to answer two security questions before you submit your request. Please remember that only the principal cardholder can submit online requests.
Change direct debit details
You can advise us of your new bank/building society account details, or change the account from which you make payments.
- Enter the account number and sort code of your bank/building society account.
- Enter the name and address of your bank/building society.
- Answer two security questions and click ‘next’. 4. We’ll contact you as soon as we’ve made these changes.

When you use Sainsbury’s Online Banking, you can be sure that all your details and account information are completely secure.
Your details
We make your privacy and security our number one priority. So your information is never stored on our web servers but on different databases that are protected from public access.
Answering security questions
We want to make sure your finances are completely safe. So as part of our ongoing commitment to the security of Sainsbury’s Online Banking, we’ll ask you security questions each time you make a payment using the online service.
Automatic log-off
You’ll notice that your connection to the online service automatically times out within ten minutes if there is no activity. This is another security measure to protect you if you leave your computer unattended.
SSL certificates
When you’re using the service, you’ll notice a yellow padlock at the bottom of your browser. This means you’re using a secure site, protected by 128-bit encryption – the latest and most powerful encryption technology available – which prevents anyone else accessing your information.
Firewall protection
This prevents unauthorised access from third parties and safeguards your account information held in our systems.
