Annual bonus

We operate a number of discretionary bonus schemes that are role specific. The rules, eligibility criteria and targets are communicated annually. As you progress your career with us, there will be the opportunity for additional rewards, plus for our senior leaders we have a unique long-term incentive scheme.

Colleague discount card

One of the great things about being part of the Sainsbury’s Group is that after 12 weeks working here you’ll receive a colleague discount card which you (and a nominated second user) can use to get 10% discount on shopping in store and online at Sainsbury’s, Argos and Habitat.


Pension is an important part of our total reward package and a great way to help you plan for your future. Government rules mean that we'll automatically enrol you into the pension when you meet certain conditions, however, even if you don't meet the auto-enrolment criteria you can join at any time.


Depending on the level of your role you may be eligible for a company car or cash car allowance.

Sharesave scheme

Each year, we invite colleagues to join our Sharesave Scheme, and as long as you've been with us for three months you'll be eligible to join. You can choose to save between £5 and £250 per pay period from your post-tax pay for either three or five years. At the end of the savings term, you can either take the money you’ve saved or you can use the savings to buy Sainsbury’s shares at a discounted price.

Sainsbury’s share purchase plan (SSPP)

After completing twelve months’ continuous service, you’ll be able to join our Share Purchase Plan (SSPP). The Plan enables you to buy Sainsbury’s shares from your pre-tax salary which remain tax free if they are held in the Trust for at least five years.

You can contribute between £8 and £115 (capped at 10% of your salary) each pay period from your pre-tax salary and you can change the amount you invest at any time.

Season ticket loans

Once you have completed 12 weeks’ service and passed your probationary period, you can request an interest free loan to purchase either a 6 month or an annual Travelcard, allowing you to spread the cost across periodic instalments. Sainsbury’s will give you a loan to buy your ticket and you’ll pay us back directly from your net salary over six or twelve pay periods, helping you to spread the cost.

Cycle to work scheme

Our Cycle to Work scheme gives you the opportunity to hire a new bike and cycling equipment from Sainsbury’s. This is a salary sacrifice scheme and you pay for the hire from your pre-tax salary, meaning you may save money on tax and national insurance.
