Extra benefits included in our vet fee cover

Our pets are full of energy, so mishaps and trips to the vet are not unusual.

While we’ll cover the cost of treatments, no one likes to overpay. So, if we think your vet’s fees are a bit steep, we’ll negotiate with them on your behalf. Depending on what they say, we might ask you to use a different vet in the future.

We’ll even chip in for clinical diets recommended by your vet.

What we won’t pay for

Our cover pays out for a wide range of treatments. But there are some things we don’t cover.

We will not pay for:

  • Conditions you knew about before the policy started
  • Illnesses in the first 14 days of your policy
  • Accidental injuries or poisoning in the first three days of your policy
  • Treatment that lasts longer than 12 months if you have a Time Limited policy
  • House calls or ambulance fees unless it’s life-threatening
  • Routine or preventative treatments

Your policy documents outlines the cover in full along with any limits to keep an eye on.

Quick and easy claims

To settle your claim swiftly, we’ll need your vet to fill out a claim form. You can submit a claim form online through My Pet Portal with the treating vet’s details, and we’ll send the vet a form to fill out. You should check your vet is happy to do this before they treat your pet.

We’ll also ask for:

  • A receipt from the vet showing their phone number and address
  • A copy of the vet’s treatment notes
  • A copy of your pet’s passport (if treatment occurred overseas)
  • Invoices for costs and fees from the last 12 months

Vet services explained

Vets give your pets the same sort of healthcare that you get from your GP. You need to register your pet with a vet, and they’ll want some details about you, like your name, address and phone number.

They’ll also want to know about your pet, and will normally ask about their:

  • Name
  • Breed
  • Age
  • Insurance cover
  • Vaccinations
  • Microchip

Vets offer a wide range of services, from basic check-ups to complex surgery. They’ll give you lots of advice on everything, including healthy eating, exercise, dental care and neutering. They’ll also give your cat or dog the treatment they need to stay healthy.

If you need emergency help, you can call our 24/7 Sainsbury’s Bank Vet Assistance helpline. Even if you’re just a little concerned, it’s best to call and make sure there’s nothing to worry about.
