No claims discounts and other discounts

Frequently asked questions

No, sorry – you can only use your no claims discount once.

Do I earn a no claims discount as a named driver?

Yes. If you don't make any claims, you'll earn your own named driver no claims discount (NDNCD) you can use when you take out your own policy with us. It may not be recognised by other insurers though.

If you'd like to transfer your NCD to your own policy, call us on 0345 266 1670* with the details of the policy you earned the discount under. We'll also need your:

  • full name
  • date of birth
  • postcode
  • policy number or registration number.

You can transfer the discount while the original policy is still valid, or for up to 90 days after it has run out.

No. Whether your windscreen is covered under comprehensive cover or with our optional extra for third party, fire and theft, making a claim won’t affect your no claims discount.

A no claims discount (NCD) is a reduction in your premium when you don’t claim on your insurance.

If you go a year without claiming – and without having any claims made against you – we'll give you money off when you renew. And the more years you're claim free, the more bigger your potential discount.

If you take out new car insurance with us, you can bring your NCD with you. We’ll just need to see proof of your discount from your last insurer, so we can give you the right amount off your cover.

We need to see written proof from your last insurer with all the details of your no claims discount (NCD).  This could be with their renewal letter, or you may have to ask them to send you a letter to confirm it.

The proof they give you needs to be dated in the last 2 years and printed on the company's letter headed paper, and give details of:

  • the number of years you've gone without claiming
  • the expiry date of your last insurance policy
  • any claims you've made.

If you're not sure what you should send us, give us call on 0345 266 1670* and we'll let you know.

If the document they send shows a smaller NCD than you told us you have, we'll use the number of years they've confirmed to work out if we can give you a discount and how much it would be.

If there's been a gap since your last car insurance ran out, you'll need to send us a short covering letter to explain why.

Please send your proof straight away to:

Or upload it on the online portal.

Here's what we cannot accept as proof:

  • Your Certificate of Insurance
  • Insurance quotes from your last insurer
  • Proof from an insurer outside the UK
