In fact, one of The Telegraph’s stand-out reasons for visiting Croatia is its value for money. Its extensive guide to the best things to see and do in Croatia reckons you can get:

  • A beer for a couple of pounds (unless you’re in one of the trendiest bars in glitzy Hvar Town)
  • Dinner for two, including wine, at a good restaurant in Split for less than £50

Skyscanner also recommends Split as one of the best budget-friendly destinations, with a half-litre of beer starting at just 15kn.

  • Cathedral of St Domnius, Split: cathedral/belfry 35/20kn
  • City Walls and Forts, Dubrovnik: 200kn for adults
  • Diocletian’s Palace, Split: Free to walk through the palace, but separate fees to enter the cathedral, crypt, treasury and baptistery
  • Euphrasian Basilica, Poreč: 40kn for adults and 20kn for children
  • Roman Amphitheatre, Pula: 50kn for adults and 25kn for children and students
