Declaring pre-existing medical conditions

We use various information to determine the price of your travel insurance policy, including your destination, the duration or your trip, the number of and the health of travellers.

Medical conditions need to be declared to be covered by your travel insurance policy. If you don’t tell us about pre-existing medical conditions, any claims you make may be rejected or payment could be reduced.

Declaring pre-existing medical conditions is quick and simple, and can be done while buying your travel insurance online or over the phone.

Just tell us each travellers’ conditions, then we might ask you a couple of follow up questions.

If you have had a medical condition prior to your trip, where you have had symptoms and sought diagnosis and been given medical treatment of a prescription, you will need to let us know. For example, some conditions, such as hayfever, tendonitis and gout would need to be declared, they don’t require us to ask for any more details, but it means we can assess the condition and make sure your policy fully covers your trip.

For other conditions, we may ask some follow up questions to understand your current medical situation, determine if any additional premium is necessary and if so how much.

Having pre-existing medical conditions won’t limit your choice of travel insurance; all Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Insurance policies – single trip, annual multi trip and extended stay - can cover a wide range of medical conditions and you can choose from Silver, Gold and Platinum levels of cover.

  • Once declared, travel with confidence that your medical conditions are covered
  • Unlimited medical expenses cover with single trip and annual multi-trip policies if you select Platinum cover
  • 24-hour Helpline available in case of medical or other emergencies while you’re away
